About

I am a wife, mother and ex professional who hit 40 in 2012. I’m slightly scared by the feeling of being close to the top of the hill and then starting to look down it. I don’t like the idea of missing out on life, so I’m testing out my writing, and my tendency always to be wondering what’s next, by blogging about my feelings on mid life and other things.

I have a very British, dry, sense of humour and that’s what generally keeps me going. A few other things: I am no earth mother but I do my best; parenting and my children continue to surprise and amuse me. I try to stay off writing about parenting but occasionally my children slip in there, especially when they’ve made me laugh.

I love (not necessarily in this order): writing, food, films, books, running, clothes and the outdoors. I miss London where I have lived on and off for sixteen years. It has taken me four years to get used to living in an Oxfordshire village (driving everywhere and a distinct lack of retail opportunities), where I’m now settled with my two boys, one long suffering girl-in-the-middle and my workaholic cardiologist husband.

  2. Ha! Reading your profile I can pretty much say, ‘me too’ to everything on there – except I’ve already reached the top of the hill and am trying to work out how to get down the other side without taking a ‘You’ve Been Framed’-style pratfall. Oh, and I’m not married to a cardiologist. Which, when you get to this age, starts to look like very good forward planning on your part … ;D Welcome to blogging and to your next chapter – it’s all good fun!

    • Pratfalls are better than a slow decline into beige polyester, elasticated waistbands and Ecco shoes though, no?
Lol at the forward planning comment. Just concentrate on the ‘workaholic’ part. No golf clubs in our hallway, put it that way πŸ˜‰

    • Yep sounds attractive doesn’t it. I’m still working out at what point I have to pack away my jeans and get some ‘slacks’. In your 50s you think?

      • Nooooooo! Never give up the jeans! You may as well order your coffin … :

Just buy a bigger size … after all … comfort first. Anyhoo, you guys are way too young to think about anything like that.

  3. Reading your blog has inspired me to continue writing, so I’ve nominated you for a Very Inspiring Blogger Award! It’s ok if you don’t want to “play”! πŸ™‚
The rules for receiving this award are:
    1. Display the award logo on your blog.
    2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
    3. State 7 things about yourself.
    4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link to them.
    5. Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award’s requirements.

  4. Hi There!
Would you be willing to participate in something we are doing for Susie Lindau on Friday morning? I am contacting as many of her followers as possible. My thought is that we all post on our own blogs on Friday with the same title, “Susie Strong”. The content would say something simple like, We are thinking of you. I haven’t known Susie for long but this blogging world is such a family. I thought it would be nice for her to see this message from as many of us as possible. Her husband is going to be updating us after her surgery. He can tell her or she can see it once she is up to it. Are you in? Thanks, Maria aka brickhousechick

  5. Hello, thanks for the follow! You sound rather similar to me – working mother, a little bit past 40, British with a dry sense of humour that keeps you going, misses London, in fact, I’m wondering if you ARE me…oh no wait, you like running, I don’t, but apart from that! I shall follow you too…
